TOO much :wall:
I have a penn gti 220 on a glass rod for $80
or I can set you up in a good mitchell 302 salt wate :yippee:r spinner and rod for $75
Yep, too much.
If I was buying a brand new Penn reel for the pier, it'd be a spinner, and I'd grab one of the new Spinfisher V's, either the SSV6500 or SSV7500.
Especially since I like to surf fish and when wading out my gear gets splashed and dunked regularly.
And if I was going to get the Fathom Star Drag, it'd be the smaller FTH25N.
I'd stay away from level winds, IMO they impede casting.

[size=12pt][font=comic sans ms]The reel in your link is way over kill, most of us use 12 or 15# mono on a spinning reel. If you don’t know what you want or need, call J & M and talk to one of the guys that fish the pier a lot, James, Terry or John. Those guys can answer your questions and you can find out about ordering, shipping or pick up.
They sold me a combo in 2008 that I still use and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg.
Hope this helps.
