Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
HOW HARD IS IT TO CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF!EVERYBODY WANTS TO CATCH EM,SO TAKE THAT SAME ATTITUDE AFTER THE CATCH AND CLEAN UP!THIS HAPPENS A LOT AT FOUR SEASONS ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY KNOW THERE LEAVING THE SAME OR NEXT DAY.
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
The pier is owned and operated by the state and it is their responsibility to enforce the rules and deal with the nasty people. As much as some people would like to take these matters into their own hands, only thing you can do is report the problem and let the people that run the place " Do Their Job " Maybe send some pictures and letters to the Govenor !

oh see that is where you are wrong..the place is left to tend to its self because they will not hire anyone with the skills to handle the job.. at this point peer pressure is the only way to fix the problem..you got to know to what point you can take it so you will not get excorted from the pier but as long as you control yourself they will comply..management has heard so many complaints from the regs they can't really take'em serious anymore..peer pressure works,,seen it and done it..btw,,,bentley is a pos...
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
sorry i missed ur birthday peaches,,happy belated b'day...
maybe the bod's need to take back over the pier and fix this problem...they sure kept the trolly's off of the octagon for the most part...it may cost'em a little pocket change into some sleeze bags hand,,but whatever it takes to get the job done... :poke1:
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Steve,
I would have to agree on this particular situation. We might not see eye to eye on everything, but we can agree on one thing. It is no fun to fish on a pier covered in trash and rotting fish. The employees that are given the task of cleaning the pier are really given a task that is tough to accomplish in a week, much less one day. If the people who frequent the pier would take their time and find a garbage can rather than just throwing their garbage on the deck, the pier would be a much nicer place to fish.
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Main reason the place isn't managed properly is probably cause it's the only pier ( and best pier ) on the Bama coast. If they had to compete for dollars and fishermen w/ other privately owned open to the public piers like Florida and South Carolina things might be different. So I guess your point about peer pressure makes sense and is about all ya can do. The pier slobs are probably the same people that think their dogs can poop on your yard and it's not their responsibility to clean it up. Sick, Nasty, People !!!
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
I'm out there a lot 4-5days a week and the I will say that most of it comes from tourist and pier rats that spend the night/days there not saying names cuz everyone know who he is takes up a table and thinks its his home :spank: no locals cut up lys on the rail or squid on the rails like tourist do and as far at the trash cans i seen them so full that trash blows out of it ::) We don't see this as much as the fall and winter months
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Steve, I don't think there really is a politically correct way of approaching this situation. I guess we just have to call it like we see it. The only feelings it will hurt are those who are guity parties anyhow.
For the last few weeks, I have seen a few staff members, along with some locals, walking around picking up trash at night and in the early mornings.
I have started taking a rope and snatch hook on occassion to remove line tangles off of the railings and light fixtures.
I was trying to gaff a king for someone last week and a huge wad of fishing line was left right at the end of the Octi on the ground, and was being kicked around like a tumble weed. The line got all tangled into my gaff and rope and I had to stop the process and cut the line out before I could get the King gaffed. The guy almost lost his fish to waves and pylons twice while waiting for the tangle to be removed.
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
I am new to the pier and have became hooked. I look foward to coming ever chance I get. I noticed on one of the pictures where reds had been cleaned early part of june. I caught one myself and someone gave me and wife one as well. I cleaned them there and cleaned the table itself but I was unsure about all of the scales and who cleaned this up. The table looked like the pics when I got there as well as when I left. I just figured there were workers that cleaned that part of table but next time I go and clean one I will do my part to keep this great pier clean and clean the whole table. Thanks for pointing all this out .

VG - "Political Correctness" has infected this entire country and people just like the ones being discussed here. Its just like the entire country being forced to change advertising, etc to accomodate certain fragments of our population.
This is the United Staes of America and while we are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, this is still the GREATEST country in the world. The constitution and Bill of Rights guarantees me and you and everybody Freedom of Speech. To me that means I can say anything to anybody about any topic (and the same of them to me) without fear of reprisal. This is what makes America so great. The language we speak here is English. If I offend someone by speaking my native tongue and not being politically correct...well this IS America ya' know!! I agree 100% with what you are saying. Keep it up and THEN we will see change.
Thanks for wading in brother
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
when i refered to not being pc enough i did not mean on the pier,,i am certainly not pc there..i was talking about this forum,,it seems some of the newbies to fishing forum are panty waste and everything upsets them to the point they scream foul and pm any admin that will listen..i have been threatened banishment on every gulf coast fishing board that i have been a member. at the present i have minimal post as i choose to join the phone tree for reports and mostly lurk here so if banishment is in the stars it would not matter. with that said, with this subjct i will push the envelope a bit. and i say again if a resident touran says that locals and regulars do not help with the trashing of the pier i call bull chit. his statement went from do not to mostly in less then a day.. and if a resident or local sees someone else trashing the pier at all and do not say something then they are participating also. i don't live or visit there as much as i like but that place could not mean as much to any of you as it does me.

Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
all my scraps always went over the side when I was fortunate enough to catch something to take home after cleaning or feeding the birds if they were quick enough....gees
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Steve your right, everyone is guilty to a degree. Most do what they can to clean up but I have seen more than a few locals throw their trash everywhere too. I for one believe we gotta look out for one another and band together. Sure was happy to have a few people on my side the other day when some yahoo decided he was going to start screaming at me and threatening. Shrugged it off but know that guy was publicly crucified by the locals and many of the tourists alike. All it takes is a few good people to stay together to really push people to make a change. People are ignorant in general, sometimes all it takes is saying something.

Other than making for some intersting reading :yay: the guilty parties most likly don't read this forum! :horse: Aside from that I like seeing the pictures of what people seem to think is ok to do. :spank:
Wishing I was there fishing :fishing:
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
I know i do not post a lot, but this subject hits a nerve. I know yal get tired of back in the day statements, but here it goes. first of all my dad would have whipped my you know what if i did not clean up after myself. Second of all I remember Jack. He ran the pier for years. He made his presence known, and if you were not following the rules or cleaning up after yourself he would call you out. If you did not like it he invited you to leave. It was like clock work. He would come out say whose rod is this, whose fish is this, and whose stuff is this. The biggest problem I see (and I am not getting on the pier staff they are undermanned) is a lack of an authority figure. I have seen some people with badges at the entrance, but never at the end of the pier. Trust me if you had an authority figure walking the pier several times a day things would get better.
Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
There was one that stood out, He got tired of the lack of appreciation.
