So Saturday I started with 1oz egg sinker on my line... kept moving up in weight. Thought about going to my car to get a workboot to tie on in the hopes of keeping my bait in between the pilings. Hooowwwww do you guys do that? People were next to me with less weight and keeping their bait in place. Looked like we were rigged similar with weight on top of swivel.
Is there some force field generator or magnets involved? Trained shrimp? Whatttttttt?????

Workboots are not effective unless you remove the laces, as the laces will tangle in the barnacles. The best thing you can do is to intently focus your concentration on your line where it enters the water and use your willpower to keep it in the right place.
Actually, my first guess is that you were fishing too deep and that gave the waves and current more line to work with to wrap you up. Second guess would be too long a leader for the same reason. Other than that, I strongly suspect that malignant forces of evil were out to get you. You have to watch the waves and current and adjust the drift of your like accordingly. When possible, I like to lean over the rail and hold my rod straight down, adjusting the angle as necessary---it's fun to feel the devils bite, too.
This actually gives you a reason for more fishing trips---practice, practice, practice.
Don't know about others, but I was using 3oz and the wind/current was still pushing me into pilings.
Was thinking about adding more weight when it was really howling, but all I had was 5oz/8oz, which were too much.
Pretty much splains it:
smaller line diameter means less wind and current resistance.
Also make sure the bait is hooked in a way to track 'straight' in the current and not offer more drag in that current than necessary.
Have you tried praying to the Fish Gods, maybe the Lord of the Sheepies?

I had plenty of spit working as I had a large chaw of Redman in. Normally don't spit but figured it may make the fish drunk and they'd bite.
I was running about a 2' leader? Trying to keep my bait in the 6' range like yall were saying.
Yeahh I was a little leery of the leanj over and pointing the rod like yall were. Realy bad knees and back plus afraid of heights without a chute on. Also worried about dropping the rod lol
I'm coming back as often as the wife will allow. I do need practice as I don't use your pier witchery fly fishing the water up here.
I did a lot of praying. Mainly variations of "God, why did you allow me to leave that spot just as it got hot? God, please make an opening on that rail." Later it was "God, let me catch a whiting or anything" when it got close to time for me to leave. I did catch a stupid eel right before I left. I hope it dies a painful death in the water for biting me pants repeatedly.
