The gotchas have definitely taught me what wear and tear is. Still a great lure!!! They are still one of the reasons I'm an avid snobbler! Still a ways away from becoming a trollier?

I'll use a Clarkspoon before a Gotcha. When I switch to a Gotcha, I let it sink, reel fast for few seconds to get it to rise off the bottom, then let is sink and rest it on the bottom a few secs. Repeat.
I'm not saying it's the best way but works for me especially with Spanish and blues.

Dang, I'd hate to get that wrapped around my head.
Good precautions, Back when I ran the Angler Academy I got into trouble with overheating one day. Went to the pierhouse and sat in a chair inside the tackle shop (in the AC). A good preventative...
Remember your sunscreen! And more!
