Chile, What time of the year is a good time to start shark fishing?
I just want to be ready when it's go time. Thanks
You can shark all year around, but it is best when the water warms up.
It really starts firing up in May, May through Oct.
A trip in June would be great.
In order for me to commit to taking a 3-5 day sharking vacation, I have to have commitments from at least two others.
Many hands lessen the load & make things move quicker, and like I said, it is a team sport.
well, I would say my son and I could go for a few days. If we could get a group of people committed and then move them around to cover multiple days. Something like that might work. The issue is getting the commitment from people. Everyone is all in until they need to be their. Then it's a different story. I had it happen to me many times with fishing trips to Canada. The earlier it gets planned out the better the turnout will usually be.
I have take baits out many times in my yak, but never at night to many things can happen It is just not worth it to me.
I think coach we'll have people that can take out bait. Just having people on shore and helping out would be great. So don't think you're not welcome if you don't go out in the yak at night. It will be a learning experience for most I'm sure. Chile would it be better to have two yaks go out each time at night for safety. I do have 2 yaks .
Chile do you have particular nights planned. I am in Birmingham but with a couple of weeks notice I can come down for a couple of days. I have a camper in Gulf State park.
Two yaks going out halves the workload, and if anyone gets in trouble it makes things much easier.
I have a yak too, OK Prowler 13.
I'm going to be shooting for June 3rd thru 6th, that gives me 3-4 nights.
I need to secure the dates for vacation time & a hotel.
I'll be open to fishing either side of the Pass, there are some spots around Perdido Key, e.g. at the junction of River Rd & 292, and another lot just to the West of that.
Or over at Pensacola Beach there are several easy to access spots, and known to produce.
It'll be easier for Jhatch to travel back-n-forth from Gulf Shores & Perdido.
Guys , I want in on this, two guys and two yaks from Atlanta. Chile you are The Shark Man!!!

What kind of over night gear would one need?
I highly recommend a hotel or camp to retire to in wee hours for shower & sleep.
Sleep away the day & fish from approx 2-3pm onwards.
For staying up all night on the beach:
Extra clothes as it cools off, wind chill
Long pants/sleeves against bugs
Change of underwear/socks
Bug spray & baby powder
Towel & blanket
Comfy beach chair
Cooler with drinks/snacks
Bait cooler
Glow sticks
Good headlight & flashlight
Camera
Some people, especially those with kids, bring a small tent or ground blind.
As I've done before, I'll post an 'Open Invitation' & give my cell# via PM to anyone who wants to meet up.
Lets see if we can put some 'Sharks on the Sand'!
I wouldn't mind joining If I could work it out with work/vacation time/wife/kids. No idea what I would be able to do...maybe just watch and learn and stay out of the way, unless needed.
Those hours would kinda cut into beach bunny spotting however!
Chile, I like the "open invitation" idea. That should give us an idea whose all going. It may entice more people to come joint us.
Why don't we rent a house on the beach.
I can swing about $300 towards a beach house.
That would be prime if it was actually on the beach, then we could fish pretty much unmolested.
And a close/safe place for parking, storing gear, restrooms & such would be great.
CJW,
I'll have the Wife mail a leader out to you Monday.
You want a castable & a yak?
I may be out of this fishing trip. My notebook took a crap and I may have to replace it, if it is not fixable. Not very happy right now.
If your out , I'm out. Meet you at FM one weekend.
It's not over till the fat lady sings!
Don't look now! No the fat lady isn't singing yet! We are running second in replies, and 3rd in reviews since as far back as September. I think we could do good if we had a main page heading " Land Based Sharking" It looks like people are interested just like me. We just aren't sure what is needed to get it done. Just my 2 pennies worth!
Don't count me out yet, note book is in PC hospital.
They're going to try a new motherboard and video card, see if that works.
I'm out ... If...I have to buy a new notebook.
Chilie,
Keeping my fingers crossed!

Chilie,
Got my leader in the mail today, it looks great, that is one serious hook.
Thank you so much, you are a great ambassador to both the sport and this board.
Chuck
You're welcome.
Sad to say... I'm out of it, my comp is dead.
Thankfully they recovered everything off the hard drive.
Now I have to start saving for new one.
Doing everything on my smartphone for now, when not at home. And zero gaming as our old desktop can't play my favorites... Bah!
I could come out on a Saturday, fish all day & night.
Fish for Red Fish and if a shark happens to bite.......oh wlll
Saturday it is! That actually works out better for me, don't miss as much work
There are a sharks along the beaches of Fort Morgan Peninsula!
This was a family shark fishing night near Tofer's house with Pier Pest and Dick. Done by 10 PM.

My son and I can do all the Friday, and Saturday night fishing you want. Let us know when and we will be their. Just looking to learn something.
Where are we going to stay.
Lots of good info on here from some of the vets about shark fishing. Any way to set up an additional forum topic for just land based sharking? A lot of the other sites have very little activity these days.
wish I could join for this, I'd love to learn how to safely handle sharks. I'll be down on Dauphin Island july 18th week if anyone wants to try that week as well.
I'll know more closer to the time but i can do 2-3 nights that week if someone is down.
Tax Return came in and my Manager of Household Finances green lighted my purchase of a new laptop.
We've been buying HPs for 15 years, I decided to try a Lenovo.

Chili If you were going to do it where would you go? Would you go to pcola or try the beach along fort morgan rd.
Chile,
So the big question of the week would be. Are you back in the game! Or at least help with some organization of said festivities. Either way we would welcome your input.
