Don't look now! But we are well under way to a forum topic. We just don't have the bold print on the first page. Their are more views and post than anything else this winter, and we haven't even wetted a line. It's all talk so far. What would happen if we actually got out sharking?

Chile or anyone else who might now,
Which baits do I want to catch and keep in the freezer for this adventure? Would like to make sure bait isn't a problem. If you could give us a quick run down on favorites, to "It will do in a bind".
Bluefish, Crevalle Jack, Ladyfish, Bonito, Spanish, Mullet , rays sized dinner plate to car hood. Any big fish head or carcass.
Whole Atlantic Sharpnose sharks.

Just like any other fish they can be picky as all hell, or eat anything & everything you put out.
The best thing is always what is schooling around at the time and fresh caught.

To make it easier on anyone who wants to drop in, I suggest one of the public access points in between Perdido Pass & P'cola. Preferably one with restrooms, those are a nice luxury.

The Penn 4/0 are castable much further than 25-50, with a mentor & practice the 6/0 can cast an easy 50+ yards.
Look up casting 6/0 on YouTube, there are Hawaiians who fish from shore for Ulua & Tuna using 6/0s.
I use Penn 9500SS & 8500SS for casting shark baits.

I Don't think I'll make this specific trip. I will be down at the very end of April and then again in mid July.
Chili, I know you are an excellent resource for shark fishing. I currently have a Penn conflict 8000, which can handle the small sharks up to 5. I will probably be getting a FN Lethal 100 soon as well to do a similar thing. Assuming I don't have a kayak, think those two will do the job at Ft morgan? I like the idea of bringing a conventional, but lack of versatility, weight, and my inexperience casting them could make buying a senator a bad decision.
I'll be bringing my kayak too guys, I have a Malibu Stealth 14 I ordered that should be here next week
Oh man are you gonna be happy with your purchase. I have had mine since October and absolutely love it. But you probably won't need to bring yours. Few others have already stated they were bringing theirs so no need in carrying the extr weight for nothing.Quote:

I am still planning on coming down to Ft Morgan the last few days of April and into May. My brother and I will be trying for Bull Reds and sharks with our casted spinning gear. Would be awesome if anyone experienced wanted to meet us down there during that time.
Also, I could really use some assistance on spooling up my two reels. I have a conflict 8000 with ~400yds of 65# Power Pro currently. I also have a FN Lethal 100 that needs line. Should i stick to 50-65# braid on both? Should I add topshots of mono to either? Would appreciate advice from anyone who has done some shark fishing off the point in Ft Morgan.
I am too old to handle this sport anymore but really enjoy reading about you guys and the activity. I will be a regular reader if a page is devoted to the subject. Good Luck and exercise care. I still enjoy catching some edible fish off the pier.
For sharking the spinners on the beach I would do 65-80# Sufix 832 braid with a long topshot of 50# mono, at least as long as your farthest cast.Quote:

Having a good selection of frozen is nice just in case Mother Nature doesn't cooperate with fresh.
I can commit to two nights on the beach.
It's a shame I'm going to miss this by a week. I'm going to be putting in some hours at Ft. Morgan/Pensacola 5/24-5/30. If anyone wants to join or help out (I'm a little green), feel free to PM me.

My son has been on the pier the last few days and has seen some sharks. He had a 4' ray on and it broke off, trying to land it. We'll try to fill the freezer with some bait.

To be fair, if we use only our hands and teeth, the shark would have to agree to a Catch & Release kind of game, too.
