Why don't we just go whole hog and start a thread on why Alabama is so much better than Auburn, or vice-versa? Then we could shift to Creationism vs. Evolution or Christians vs. Muslims---but wait, none of that has anything to do with pier fishing. We need to do those fights on our own time. Meantime, I think I'll go snobbling and borrow a drink of water from whoever is trolley fishing close to me. Peace, brothers.
if it is a single line trolley (slider rig) you either go over or under, you can simply free-spool and the fish will turn out past it, or completely around. the only way a mess would happen is if the fish somehow catches the drop line, and if you can't keep the fish out of the drop line and you are experienced, then you just weren't meant to catch that fish. A double trolley can be avoided the same way. You can also horse the fish in between the rig and the pier. Most considerate people will even pull their rig in if you ask nicely. I don't trolley fish, but iv defiantly lost more fish to other snobblers and float fisherman and lure chunckers crossing lines and not wanting to move than i did to trolleys when trolleys were allowed..Quote:

When its windy as hell out there, a trolley would be a nice option. I say let people fish trolleys but make them buy a pass to do so. They then put said pass on trolley anchor so the state workers know its legit. That would help keep the amateurs away and if a person abuses it, they can revoke it. I think that would be a very good compromise IMO and would keep people honest. Of course those days in the winter when no ones around it would be open but there's very few fishing then anyways.
Randy said that the whole trolly deal is being tossed around in Montgomery, he said that fishing them north of the Oct. Will soon be premitted.
So your solution would be to charge said person more to fish a particular style? That would be like charging a person more because they want to fish for flounder with gulp rather than live bait. The whole point of fishing on the pier is to make friends and enjoy ourselves while possibly catching some fish in the process. All this bickering is doing is dividing friends and putting tension on a staff that is already stressed out to begin with.
