Well you have to make some sacrifices, so the government can keep on blowing up old oil rigs and killing thousands of snapper per blast. The stupidity of the government is just so out of hand I fear for our future, this is just one of a continuing trend of cases where our rights are being sold to the highest bidder or briber.
We need to think about the next generation. Will they be limited to catching ly's and hard heads?

The commercials need to be reminded that there was little historic red snapper fishery off Alabama until the recreational charter industry built the reefs we fish and support through contributions, fees, and chartering. Without the artificial reefs the habitat is not suitable for red snapper as there is not enough hard bottom.
I can't address the situation off other states, but I know the snapper are off Alabama because of the reefs and the commercials have had precious little to do with their placement.

the 11 day season was recommended by a committee yesterday (I assume that's the Reef Fish Committee) and will be voted on by the Council tomorrow.
I find it hard to understand why the goverment would cut the legs out of such a good part of the economy in Gulf Shores that it will probably put some charters out of business and put the families of those charters in possible poverty and cause the city of gulf shores to loose even more revenue of vacationers. And the domino effect would just continue. I don't down there yet but I have lived in places where bone head decisions like this have ruined towns to there point the only way to survive is to move or live on the wrong side of the law. My hopes and prayers go out to you all to hopefully they will fix this so you all can still afford to live in such a paradise.
