Storm brewing and fishing

I normally come out to fish the pier at least twice a year and just so happens this year it's looking like the storm in the gulf may be hitting at the same time we are there. I was wondering if this may affect with the fishing at all. I remember the last time we came right after a storm and the water from the Mobile Bay was affecting the fishing a good bit. Just curious if any of the locals can give an insight as to what's the usual affect when a smaller storm like this comes through. We plan on fishing from Memorial Day weekend until the following weekend.

And this may be a 'stout' one!
Still it's difficult to say with any certainty what the actual conditions (and aftermath) may end up being.
But the weather models keep spinning up some kind of sub-tropical or even tropical system that in all likelihood will dampen the holiday weekend and stir the Gulf.
The degree of which becomes problematic once the scenario takes shape, but the NWS Marine forecast is a good indicator of what we can expect...

I have been tracking it closely for the past 2-3 days now. We actually talked about it this morning after looking at the projected outlook on the following week and didn't like it one bit. Unfortunately we are cancelling the trip for next week and going to have to reschedule. Didn't want to take the chance of going out their and having to sit on the sidelines more than we get to fish. Grant it, I will be back soon!

Yep. looks like a washout a/o a blowout for this weekend. That really bites. I might still try to fish if I can find a spot out of the wind.

Eh just use it for much longer casts! Put a little kite on your line even!

My boys (11 & 14) and I are coming down this weekend through the first and love fishing at your wonderful pier! Cancelling due to the weather isn’t an option😉! So, that being said, any insight into pier fishing during the storm and/or having a backup plan somewhere in a bay or the canal would be appreciated. They bass fish for their school team in Oklahoma and getting wet isn’t a concern. I love your forum and have read on and off for years. This will be our 3rd trip to GS for pier fishing.

West Beach (Little Lagoon) Park or Perdido Pass (either side) at least offer 'fishable' options.
Also the Intercoastal Water way along Hwy 180 between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach

One thing that should be considered a deal-breaker, is lightning.

Good way to figure out how far away it is count the number of seconds between thunder and the flash and then divide by 5. That is how many miles it is from you. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from your location. On a pier with your fishing pole is not a good place to be!

I bet I'd be dead before I could count to "one" ;-) LOL
