Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
Post up some photos of your pride and joy for getting your arsenal out on the pier. Stock, Custom or outrageous; don’t worry I won’t laugh, I’ll put up some photos of mine shortly.
I have seen some really interesting wheeled contraptions used as pier carts, but this guy really has what is most likely a One of a Kind Lawnmower Cart!

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
This is mine, just a cart I found at Lowe's. I added the rod holders later, its a good cart..just heavy loading and unloading by yourself. I plan on upgrading to the aluminum cart next year. Picture is blurry but you can see it

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
[size=12pt] What was this contraption before it was resurrected as a pier cart?
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/...-8-2012008.jpg
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/...-8-2012009.jpg
Give up? It was a discarded shower chair from a nursing home. The proud new owner, Sean, said he got two for free and cut up the other one to make the rod holders for this one. He added the plywood decking and was good to go!
Proof once again that one person’s trash is another’s treasure. :yippee:

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
Here's my Fishing Cart.
http://images.vannsuv.com/pictures/58912072.jpg
I really need to get something for the pier, but haven't really "needed" it since my cooler has wheels.
Should think of something creative after reviewing this thread though.
Need some ideas! I want something with big wheels--preferrably smaller than the van!

Not sure it would be legal on the pier, but here it is.

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
I now have it fixed to hold 12 rods, (2 GRANDSONS) and 8 of them are in a straight line, so I've added two 36 inch dowel rods with eye bolts and Locks at each end to attempt to stop some one from casually walking by and taking a rod and reel, or taking them outa the back of the truck if I stop at a store for a few minutes.
http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/...sstag/lock.jpg
Its possible to lift the wooden rods enuff to get the rods outa the pvc pipes and take all 8 at a time.... BUT.... he would have to have balls to walk off with that arm full, and brains to have thought of doing that way.... BUT I have it tied down with 40# seven strand for now. Any other ideas... a bike cable lock would work also. May add that for going into the store on the way to the pier.
-
Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
there might be just enough room for someone to lift the rod high enough to take just the reel....I had made some holders that the reel was down in the pvc with a twist lock action for bank fishing that locked the rod and reel in the pvc....I will try and find one to show a picture....
I have seen other rod holders made that way....where there was a slot cut for the reel seat to go down in the pvc so it didn't rotate and stayed in that position....... that way a bar could be closer, so they couldn't get to the reel seat nut and remove the reel....just giving an idea
-
Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
Thanks IronMan, yep I was looking for ideas. This will allow quick stops at a store or when going to take a nature break at the pier.
-
Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
kind of like these....maybe even a little deeper.....but with your bar over top almost imposable to get to the reel nut to remove the reel

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
Love the AU license plate, Fin!
This thread has been quite helpful in providing me ideal assistance in how I want to create my cart monstrosity. Looking forward to the construction.
Fin, don't sue me when I follow suite with the flag and tag.   :headbang: :headbang:
Of course, mine is going to have a more ... "Danish" approach.

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
We’ve all heard the ol’ saying, “Everything but the kitchen sink”.
Well sports fans, here is a pier cart with everything, INCLUDING THE KITCHEN SINK complete with running water!

http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/...18-2012002.jpg
Here is the water hookup that simply connects to a standard faucet. There is also a drain pipe that directs the drain water overboard.

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
I doubt ADEM would condone that design ::) ;) :D

Re: Pier Carts and Other Contraptions
He even hooked up both sides I guess to get more pressure! Now all it needs is a Coleman stove!
